Nutanix SSA elevates Phillip de Waal to Systems Engineering Manager

Hybrid multi-cloud computing service provider Nutanix, has announced the appointment of Phillip de Waal as Systems Engineer Manager for the Sub-Saharan region, effective August 1, 2021.

A company statement said De Waal, will be responsible for advancing the Nutanix technical portfolio, growing its engineering resources and evangelising its technologies across the continent. 

In his new capacity, he will lead the technical direction of the business and will report directly to James Sturrock, Director Of Systems Engineering – WEURSSA, while working closely with Rowen Grierson, Sales Director – Sub-Saharan Africa. 

De Waal joined Nutanix as a consultant in 2014 and then permanently in 2016. Over the past seven years, he has worked closely with customers and partners, first helping them design better hyper-convergence solutions and more recently defining their approach to their private and multi-cloud environments.

Commenting on the appointment, Grierson said, “Phillip has been with Nutanix in the region since the very beginning and has fantastic relationships with our partners and customers. His knowledge of our solutions, his passion for the technology and his understanding of the complex issues facing local business makes him the perfect person for this role.”

“I am looking forward to working with Philip as we continue to blaze a new path for those customers looking to reinvent and redefine their infrastructure journey as they move more workloads into the cloud,” he added. 

With over 24 years of experience in IT, de Waal joined Nutanix from Bitrate, where he worked in the capacity of services manager. He also served a tenure at AxizWorkgroup, MICROmega Technologies, Stortech and First Technology Group.

He boasts an exceptional understanding of the inner workings of the IT channel and in-depth knowledge of customer support relationships. Outside of his extensive technical training and Nutanix certifications, de Waal was initially certified by the Aerospace Industry Education and Training Board as an Aircraft Avionician.

All at the right price, of course,” he concludes.
